What is Pilates?

Pilates is a safe form of exercise that corrects muscular imbalances and helps to realign the body. With this method it is possible to change your body shape and the exercises focus on building long lean muscle, not bulky as you see in weight-lifters. With its ability to target specific muscle groups, the method is also widely used to re-habilitate injuries, get back into shape after giving birth and to alleviate back and neck pain. Pilates focuses on building strong abdominals to support the back and provide core stability, whilst lengthening the muscles and promoting flexibility. At the same time as strengthening the whole body, it simultaneously relaxes the mind as movements are slow, controlled and focused and the breathing method lends the exercises a meditative quality.
